Afgan protest burning of Holly Quran ,World top news update

Afgan-Deeply concerned about reports that U.S. troops had accidentally burned copies of the Koran upset the sacred text of Islam, Tuesday thousands of protesters tried to break into the largest U.S. base in Afghanistan.

Been protests in the early morning hours, after Afghans who work inside the Bagram air base, said local residents, a number of copies of the Koran were burned. The incident led to a maximum of U.S. military in Afghanistan, Gen. John R. Allen, offer a public apology and an examination arranged.

"When we think of these actions, We  immediately intervened and arrested them," Allen said in a statement. "We are taking steps to ensure that this does not happen again. I assure you ... I promise ... it was not at all intended."

Opposite the main entrance of the base, demonstrators threw stones throw burning tires and smashed the windows of neighboring houses. Many protesters said they have working at the base, which employs about 5,000 people. Tuesday, betrayed emotion, chanted "long live Islam" and "Death to America".
